LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - It’s been more than a week since Gov. Jim Pillen announced the Work Ethic Camp in McCook will transition into an ICE detention center which is continuing to spark frustration and concern not only with Nebraskans, but with lawmakers too.

Sen. George Dungan along with 12 other senators wrote a letter to the Nebraska Judiciary Committee Chair, Carolyn Bosn and Gov. Pillen’s office a list of question along with a request to answer them in the form of a public forum. That request has since been denied.

“I think we need to be able to have these conversations in the light of day,” Sen. Dungan said. “In public and also permit the public to have a chance to have their voices being heard too.”

As a Nebraska native, Sen. Dungan said it’s a topic that hits close to his heart.
