A donkey trapped down a well may sound like the opening to a fairytale but it was the scene that greeted Spanish firefighters outside Madrid on Thursday.

A team of firefighters rushed to the town of Robledo de Chavela, 70 km (43 miles) from Madrid, where they found the donkey trapped in a well more than 3 meters deep.

The animal was in good condition, and the firefighters managed to rescue it using a rope system.

The firefighters calmed the donkey by covering its face with a T-shirt, petting it, and making familiar sounds.
