BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — It's a bird, it's a plane — it's Hoosier the Bison!

Indiana University's mascot is officially back after nearly 60 years and Hoosier made sure to return in a big way.

For IU's season opener against Old Dominion on Saturday, Aug. 30, Hoosier parachuted into Memorial Stadium.

"I'm back, did you miss me?" Hoosier the Bison said in a post on X .

Back in 1965, a student-led group picked their school's mascot as Hoosier the Bison, inspired by the bison on Indiana's state seal. Just after four years of having a mascot though, Hoosier was retired.

Now, Hoosier is back.

The mascot's homecoming is a result of the "Bring Back the Bison Act" passed by the Indiana University Student Body Congress on Dec. 16, 2024.
