STATEWIDE -- Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey and several other states have secured the release of more than 184 million in AmeriCorps funding.

This comes after Attorney General Frey joined a coalition of states in a federal lawsuit against the White House Office of Management and Budget.

The funds, which support national service programs across the country, had been withheld despite a federal court ruling earlier this summer that barred AmeriCorps from making similar cuts without formal rule making.

According to a news release from the Maine Attorney General's Office, OMB and AmeriCorps were expected to be in court on Friday, but instead OMB agreed to release the previously withheld funds.
