KENT, Ohio (WKBN) - Former West Branch star and current Kent State quarterback Dru DeShields led the Flashes in passing and tossed his first career touchdown in a 21-17 win over Merrimack on Saturday.
DeShields connected with Caden Wolford on a 79-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter before finishing 6-of-10 passing for a team-high 118 yards and a touchdown.
The Beloit native split reps with starter CJ Montes, who went 6-of-9 for 91 yards and a score as well.
It was the first win for the Kent State football program in more than 700 days, when they defeated Central Connecticut 38-10 on Sept. 16, 2023. The 21-game losing streak was snapped when Da'Realyst Clark's 100-yard kick return sealed the Flashes' win.
