The Boston Red Sox have announced a pair of roster moves ahead of Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Nathaniel Lowe, who has been away from the team since Thursday , was activated from the Paternity List and will begin the game on the bench with Romy González earning the start and playing first base.

To make room for Lowe’s return, the team optioned infielder Nick Sogard to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. He was 0-3 with a walk and a stolen base during his lone appearance with the team on Friday.

Since being released by the Washington Nationals on August 16, Lowe has provided an offensive spark for the Red Sox. Currently batting .296 with eight hits, one home run and seven RBI’s in 27 at-bats with his new club, Lowe was batting a career worst .216 before Washi
