Just in time for the holiday weekend, the Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $1 billion, only the sixth time in the game’s history that the prize has reached ten digits, Jackpot.com said .

It’s been nearly three months since a ticket matched all six numbers, a California player claimed a $204.5 million prize on May 31. Since then, rollover after rollover has fueled the latest climb into the record books, placing Saturday’s draw among the biggest jackpots ever offered in U.S. history, according to Jackpot.

The list of historic wins is short: The record remains the $2.04 billion jackpot won in California in November 2022, followed by a $1.765 billion prize also claimed in California less than a year later, Jackpot said.
