WINDER, Ga. — The lawmaker who successfully carried a school safety bill in this year’s legislature says the new law appears to be working so far – just a few days into the new school year.
The mass shooting at Apalachee High School a year ago pushed the republican led legislature to pass a school safety bill that leaned into better communication with law enforcement, and among schools, about potentially troubled students.
"I think we had a good comprehensive first step toward helping our children’s mental health and school safety," said state Rep. Holt Persinger (R-Winder), who represents the community surrounding Apalachee High School.
