Red Bull driver Max Verstappen made it clear that pole position was out of the question for him at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Despite having extra support at his home race, Verstappen had a downbeat Friday, though he managed to get a podium place starting spot for the race on Sunday after an intense qualifying session.
In typical Red Bull fashion, the team began the race weekend with palpable pessimism regarding the RB21, struggling with the setups and looking more like an upper-midfield car than a race-fighting one.
Verstappen was more than two-tenths away from both McLaren cars during the deciding qualifying session.
Despite the seemingly small gap, the hometown favorite did not feel close to a pole position result on Saturday's end.
