The first upset of the 2025 college football season happened on Saturday.

Unranked Florida State (1-0) rushed for 230 yards and cruised to a shocking 31–17 win over No. 8 Alabama (0-1) Saturday afternoon at the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium.

Coming off a 9–4 campaign in 2024 under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, Alabama was hoping for an early season statement.

Florida State went 2–10 last season under head coach Mike Norvell.

Florida State transfer quarterback Thomas Castellanos, who came over from Boston College, led all rushers with 78 yards in the 14-point win.

Alabama opened the scoring with a 17-play, 85-yard drive to take an early 7–0 lead, but the Crimson Tide couldn’t pull away from there.
