CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (WGN) — An altercation early Saturday morning left one person dead, and four others injured after gunfire erupted in Chicago Heights.
Police say officers responded at around 4 a.m. to reports of a disturbance in the 400 block of West 14th Street. When they arrived, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds and another individual with facial injuries.
All four were transported to nearby hospitals. A short time later, police were notified of an additional walk-in patient who had also been shot, bringing the total number of victims to five.
Police said two victims remain in critical condition, two are stable, and one person died from their injuries.
Police believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation. The investigation is ongoing.
