EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The Michigan State volleyball team opened their season with a 3 set win against Merrimack under new head coach Kristen Kelsay. Kelsay played at Michigan State from 2010-2013 and was hired in December of 2024 as the eighth head volleyball coach in program history.

"It was a little surreal, actually, Cathy [George] came in the locker room before I walked out during warm up and we were like 15 years ago we started this journey, you know, and to be here now with her by my side and with me in this role is just a privilege," said Kelsay. "It's just really surreal and I feel very grateful to be here now with her by my side and with me in this role is just really surreal and I feel very grateful."
