After a year as Colorado College’s interim leader that saw massive challenges for higher education, Manya Whitaker is doubling down on her school's mission as she begins her tenure as the liberal arts school’s 15th president.

Reestablishing the college's prominence in academics while celebrating its unique status in the region and in higher education were among the priorities she shared with The Gazette last fall.

Having been hands-on in this work for the past 14 years, her goal remains as strong as it was then, she said last week.

“The college is ready to move forward, and I was very much in a unique position to be able to do that differently than someone coming from the outside,” Whitaker said.
