HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For the second time in one week, Honolulu police arrested Antonio Vierra, who is now suspected of two arsons this month.

Vierra, 70, was arrested last Saturday for allegedly starting a fire in Kunia that day. He was released on bail and charged with second-degree arson on Wednesday.

On Friday, police arrested Vierra again on suspicion of arson for another fire at Puaena Point Beach park in Haleiwa that also broke out last Saturday.

Police reported Vierra briefly refused to leave his home but eventually complied and was taken into custody.

“There’s quite a history of arsonists being repeat offenders. They set multiple fires,” retired Honolulu police deputy chief John McCarthy said. “It’s not all that surprising that he got arrested twice in a week.”
