CORVALLIS — Maalik Murphy’s Oregon State debut was anything but smooth.

The highly touted transfer from Duke made only a handful of mistakes which could be attributed directly to him — mainly his interception, and a 101-yard would-be pick-six which was called back due to pass interference. The factors swirling around Murphy forced him and the OSU offense into a difficult game state.

The Beavers trailed 14-0 early and were left chasing it through the air. And Murphy had few reliable options to throw to with senior Darrius Clemons done for the season.
