CHARLESTON — A prominent national radio host said admission to the International African American Museum is on him Sept. 1.

In a clip posted on social media , Lenard McKelvey, aka Charlamagne Tha God, explained that the idea to cover the entry fee for every visitor was sparked by President Donald Trump’s recent viral comments that chastised how museums portray slavery.

Trump posted to Truth Social on Aug. 20 criticizing the Smithsonian in particular for being “out of control” for emphasizing the negative aspects of American history, including “how bad slavery was.”

“It got me thinking about how much we need to be supporting these institutions, because they are telling accurate American history,” McKelvey said in the video.
