The past year has been a transformational one for Joshua Mowen, chef and owner of the new Ferlito’s Pizzeria in St. Clair Shores.
He made the difficult decision in June to close Ferlito’s Restaurant, a beloved spot for authentic Italian cuisine in Grosse Pointe Woods for nearly 50 years, and transition the business to a carry-out only concept a few miles down the road.
“There’s so much more overhead that goes into having a dining location,” said Mowen, who purchased Ferlito’s Restaurant from the Ferlito family in 2015. “As a chef, I love the human interaction — not that you can’t do that here, but it’s a little bit different going up to the tables and greeting, and everything else; it’s a humbling part of being a chef/owner.”
