“The Lost Hamsters and the Castle of Light” is the sequel to “The Lost Hamsters of Barnaby Bunch” by Michael Jude Schauer. Like the first book, published in 2024, it is an allegorical tale of heroes and villains, with suspense and thrilling adventure.

In “Barnaby,” a kind-hearted pet shop employee defies his boss’s order to drown a bunch of hamsters. When Barnaby hears one of the hamsters pleading for mercy, he puts them in a basket and abandons them in the woods, along with five magic stones the previous owner’s father had given him. The senior hamster, Captain Nathaniel Nibbles, directs the others to build shelter, forage for food and devise weapons.
