The Oklahoma Department of Corrections is searching for an inmate who walked away from a community correction center in northeast Oklahoma.

Officials said 33-year-old James Howell left the Northeast Oklahoma Community Correction Center in Vinita just after 9 p.m. Friday.

Howell is serving a five-year sentence for false declaration of ownership in a pawn shop case out of Jackson County.

He is described as 5’8” tall, weighing 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

DOC officials said anyone who sees Howell should not approach him and should call 911 immediately.

This is a developing story.
