MANHATTAN, Kan. — UND quarterback Jerry Kaminski, fresh off making his first career start, was asked if he was happy about his team's performance Saturday night against No. 17 Kansas State.

Before Kaminski could even speak, UND captain and linebacker Malachi McNeal — seated across the table at the postgame press conference — bit his lip, scowled and shook his head.

UND, a 20-plus-point underdog and a program that has never beat a team from the power conferences, just struck fear into the 51,927 fans at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

McNeal wanted to make it clear, though. A new era of Fighting Hawks football under first-year coach Eric Schmidt wasn't just happy to be here.
