A man who police said pulled a knife on officers was shot early Sunday morning near 2030 E. Southern Ave.

A two-officer patrol unit assigned to the South Mountain Precinct in Phoenix were investigating a man riding a bicycle at about 12:45 am. Aug. 31.

Officers attempted to talk to the man, but he ran away. Officers caught the man and attempted to detain him, police said.

“The man resisted officers and was seen removing a knife from his possession,” the Phoenix Police Department release stated.

“As one of the officers continued struggling to detain the man the other officer verbally alerted his partner to the knife and removed his duty gun, discharged it and struck the man.”
