An inmate at the Forsyth County jail died on Friday shortly after being arrested, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office disclosed in a release on Sunday.
Michael Robert Smith, 45, was found unresponsive in the early evening on Friday. Jail staff and medical personnel made efforts to revive Smith but were unsuccessful, according to the sheriff’s office.
Smith had been arrested earlier that day on charges of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In line with standard procedures, the State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the death, according to the sheriff’s office.
