NEW YORK — Jessica Pegula has reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open after defeating Ann Li in straight sets in the fourth round of the tournament.
Pegula rolled through her matchup Sunday afternoon, beating American Ann Li 6-1, 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The Buffalo native came into the tournament as the #4 seed. With her win today, she has now reached 8 Grand Slam quarterfinals. This is the second year in a row that she has made the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open, beating then #1 seed Iga Swiatek 6-2, 6-4.
Pegula's run to the quarterfinals has been impressive. She beat Mayer Sherif of Egypt 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round and Russian Anna Blinkova 6-1, 6-3. Pegula had a tougher time against Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, but was able to overcome the challenge, winning 6-1, 7-5. Pe
