(KFVS) - It’s Labor Day Weekend, and many people are enjoying a three-day holiday.

And while you are having fun grilling, swimming or boating, officials throughout the Heartland urge you to be safe.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife says if you are on a lake or river, keep a sober operator at the wheel, always wear your life jacket and look out for others while on the water.

They say 84 percent of drowning victims were not wearing a life jacket, and alcohol use is the number one contributing factor in boating deaths.
