AUSTIN, Texas — Two people have died and four others have been hospitalized following a multivehicle crash in Elgin on Saturday night.

According to the Elgin Police Department, the crash happened just before midnight at the intersection of U.S. 290 northbound and Saratoga Farms Boulevard.

Police say two of the vehicles immediately became engulfed in flames after the crash. An officer near the scene responded and began extracting multiple people from vehicles involved.

One person, identified as 66-year-old Robbie Carter, died at the scene. Multiple helicopters and ambulances transported other patients to hospitals in Austin.

Another person, a 13-year-old girl, later died at the hospital. Four others remain hospitalized.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
