LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Road to Recovery Walk in Lexington aimed to provide resources for those who may be dealing with an addiction and to help prevent overdose deaths.

There were nearly 14,000 purple flags planted all over Lexington’s East End, each representing a life lost to an overdose in Kentucky in the past seven years.

“I'm in recovery, and I just celebrated 35 years clean and sober yesterday,” said Rob Perez, owner of DV8 Kitchen, a restaurant that hires those in active recovery.

He hosted the walk alongside Voices of Hope and the City of Lexington’s Social Services so people can learn how standing beside someone with an addiction can help prevent another flag from being planted.
