CLEVELAND — Tennis in the Land organizers already handed out a trophy last Saturday in Cleveland, but they may have to do it again as this year's singles champion says her trophy was stolen from a New York hotel room.
Cleveland champion Sorana Cirstea — the 35-year-old Romanian who emerged out of qualifying to claim the 2025 title without dropping a set over six matches — took to her Instagram stories Saturday to plead for her trophy's return. Cirstea said it was pilfered from a room at The Fifty, a Sonesta brand hotel in midtown Manhattan, where she was staying to compete in the U.S. Open.
"Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room 314 at [The Fifty] please give it back!" Cirstea wrote. "It has NO material value, just sentimental value! It would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, S
