MACON, Ga. — After a back-and-forth battle to keep or remove speed zone cameras earlier this year, five new cameras are being added near schools around Macon-Bibb County.
On Sunday, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office announced five new school zone cameras will be turned on and issue warnings.
The sheriff's office said the cameras will be turned on Wednesday, Sept. 3. They added the cameras will be issuing warnings through Friday, Oct. 3.
However, the sheriff's office said, on Saturday, Oct. 4, the cameras will go live and start issuing citations.
According to the sheriff's office, the cameras will only run during school hours when the lights near the cameras are flashing. They added that deputies will be patrolling these speed zones to help keep students safe.
