FRANKLINTON, La. — Authorities captured two inmates after an escape from the Washington Parish Jail Sunday, according to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office. The escapees, Corey Ard and Kaid Elliott were captured Sunday night.

Deputies said Ard was found around 9:30 p.m. at Highway 25 and Highway 16, while Elliott was captured about an hour later behind the Cargill Animal Nutrition Plant in Franklinton.

Sheriff Jason Smith says the escape occurred because of a miscount and failure to properly check inmates returning to the cellblock.

"Well, the short answer is just a failure on our part to follow policies and procedures," he said.
