CANMORE – A multi-vehicle crash has forced the closure of the westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near Cougar Creek in Canmore.

The accident, which occurred on Sunday (Aug. 31) around 2:38 p.m., led to serious injuries.

Canmore RCMP are on the scene and ambulances were driving back and forth. Canmore General Hospital put out alerts asking for extra staff.

An analyst was sent to assess the scene.

STARS air ambulance was dispatched and one woman was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

Alberta Health Services EMS confirmed multiple people were transported to hospital, however they did not indicate how many patients were taken.
