U.S. President Donald Trump has denied widespread online rumours that he had died after being absent from public view for two days.

On Aug. 29, social media users circulated thousands of posts claiming the 79-year-old president had passed away. Hashtags such as #whereistrump and #TRUMPDIED quickly gained traction.

The following day, Trump posted on his Truth Social account, sharing a photo of himself playing golf at his Virginia club with former NFL coach Jon Gruden. He captioned the image, “Great playing Golf with Jon Gruden – A really nice guy, and true character!”

The speculation had intensified in part because Trump had no scheduled events for the weekend, which supporters and critics noted was uncommon for him. Neither the White House nor Trump himself addressed
