FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) -- Local business owner Christopher Silvia, who announced earlier this month he's running for mayor of Fall River, has dropped out of the race.

"I'm out of the campaign business completely," Silvia said on an episode of The Bobby Couto Show, a podcast, which aired Sunday.

Silvia, who owns a restaurant on South Main Street called "Christopher's," said his business "has suffered" and his relationships "have suffered" during the campaign.

He explained that he felt targeted during the campaign and also expressed disgust with online criticism he received as a candidate.

"At some point I had to say to myself the machine is so big and so gnarly and so ugly, why do you want to be in it," Silvia said.
