LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -A K-9 in Lincoln County has been forced into retirement after a cancer diagnosis. Deputy K-9 Luna was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer a few weeks ago. Now, she’s spending her final days with her handler.

“She was my best friend - Always there no matter what kind of day I had or day she had. She was always there wagging her tail happy to see me,” said Chief Deputy Michael Mullins of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Michael Mullins says his days are different now. After seven years, Deputy K-9 Luna is no longer by his side. Instead, Luna stays behind inside the comforts of her home with Mullins.

He says cancer is to blame.
