SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Excitement for Sunday's Grade 1, $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes at Saratoga Race Course quickly turned to shock and concern, as jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. was unseated from his horse at the outset of the race.

Out of the starting gate, the seven-horse, Phileas Fogg, veered sharply to the left on the main dirt track. That initiated a chain reaction of events ending with the four-horse, Mindframe, which Ortiz, Jr. was aboard, being bumped by the five-horse, White Abarrio. That sent Ortiz, Jr. tumbling to the dirt.

Ortiz, Jr. was immediately tended to by emergency medical personnel and cleared from the track before the horses came around the final turn. He was transported to Albany Medical Center for further evaluation of his left wrist and ribcage, ac
