A footpath on a busy Plymouth city centre road is finally set to reopen after being closed for four years in what was branded a “shambles” and a danger to pedestrians.
Plymouth City Council has been struggling to find a solution to a drainage problem which has seen water pour onto Central Park Avenue.
But after years of frustration for residents and road users, work has at last begun to clear vegetation from the footpath The work, which began on August 27, will see a short one-way traffic system in place while clearance happens.
It will also mark the first step towards restoring safe access. Further drainage diversion work will take place next month to divert water that has repeatedly flooded the path.
