The Phillies have signed veteran righthander Walker Buehler for the remainder of the season. Buehler had been in the Red Sox starting rotation much of this season until Boston released him this past week.

Buehler struggled with a 5.45 earned run average this season and went 1-6 in 22 starts in 112 1/3 innings. However, he holds a respectable 3.56 ERA lifetime.

Most notably, Buehler, 31, is a seasoned playoff performer who fashioned a 10-3 record and 3.04 on 19 playoff appearances with the Dodgers.

it is unclear if Buehler will factor into the Phillies starting rotation or slot into a relief role initially.

Matt Gelb of the Athletic first reported Buehler heading to the Phillies. Looking for a free mini puzzle? Play the USA TODAY Quick Cross now.
