Though it may take a bit longer, Oklahoma City could still see an aquarium in its future.
When asked this week, leadership at the Oklahoma City Zoo said the organization is still in talks to build the attraction in OKC's new Horizons District. However, OKC Zoo CEO Dwight Lawson said they haven't been able to put shovel to dirt just yet.
“We're still talking with them. We have a long-term dream plan and goal of doing a whole new separate standalone aquarium,” Lawson said on Friday.
Conversations about including an aquarium in the Horizons District began as far back as 2022, when the Chickasaw Nation began construction on OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark near the First Americans Museum.
