MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The U.S. Coast Guard and Manatee County Sheriff's Office said they are searching for a swimmer who disappeared near Anna Maria Island's Bean Point Beach on Sunday night.

Crews said 20-year-old Abhigyan Patel was seen swimming just before 7 p.m. in an olive green shirt before he vanished.

Patel was reportedly swimming with a friend when he was caught in a riptide. His friend was rescued and brought to shore, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
