The jackpot for the next Powerball lottery drawing — set for Monday night, Sept. 1 — keeps on soaring, and it is now at an estimated $1.1 billion.

If any lottery players pick all six numbers correctly, it will rank as the fifth biggest Powerball jackpot in the history of that multi-state game, according to records from Powerball lottery officials .

The Powerball lottery game began in 1992, and can be played in 45 states as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
