Gov. Maura Healey and four of her Northeast counterparts called on President Donald Trump Monday to “uphold” all permits for offshore wind projects that have already been granted and to allow construction to move forward.
The plea comes more than a week after Trump’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management halted construction on a nearly complete offshore wind project near Rhode Island, briefly stopped work on a project near New York earlier this year, and his administration canceled $34 million in grants to Salem to redevelop a vacant facility into an offshore wind terminal.
Healey and the governors said efforts to walk back offshore wind projects “jeopardize hardworking families, wasting years of progress and ceding leadership to foreign competitors.”
