DICKINSON, N.D. — Two New England High School students avoided jail time after agreeing to a plea deal in a case in which they were accused of setting a classmate on fire.
Daniel Dewall and Jaren John Rafferty allegedly set a classmate on fire on Dec. 31, 2024. Dewall and Rafferty were arrested and charged on Feb. 6 after Hettinger County sheriff’s deputies obtained video footage of the incident.
The video, obtained by The Dickinson Press in February, shows three individuals in what appears to be a garage. Two of them — identified by law enforcement as Dewall and Rafferty — are shown spraying brake fluid and igniting it.
