A good portion of New England is predicted to be able to see aurora borealis, otherwise known as the northern lights, on Monday night.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Space Weather Prediction Center posted an image of an aurora forecast with a visibility line including 18 states — among them Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

An eruption of solar material and magnetic fields, known as a coronal mass ejection , will cause the northern lights to be visible, according to the Space Weather Prediction Center.

This eruption took place on August 30 and is headed to Earth at potentially 2 million mph, the center wrote.
