LORAIN, Ohio (WOIO) - A 16-year-old boy is accused of murdering his own mother by shooting her in the head, the Lorain Police Department said.

Officers were sent to the 1500 block of West 24th Street for a report of an unresponsive woman at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, according to LPD.

LPD said officers arrived to find 45-year-old Melinda Green unresponsive inside the home.

Officers then saw she appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head, LPD stated.

Lifecare Ambulance crews arrived on scene and performed lifesaving measures, but LPD said it was too late.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to LPD.

Evidence discovered during the investigation identified Green’s 16-year-old son as the suspect, shared LPD.
