Harrison Township — A bothersome blue-green algae continues to muck up Lake St. Clair in Macomb County, but one Macomb County lawmaker is hoping an $800,000 appropriation in the new state budget can help find ways to address it.

The Republican-led Michigan House passed a nearly $79 billion spending plan for fiscal year 2026 earlier this week that includes a $800,000 request by state Rep. Alicia St. Germaine, R-Harrison Township, to study mitigation efforts for the blue-green algae called cyanobacteria. The funds also would go toward implementing a program to start removing it, said Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller.
