NORTHFIELD – After an uncertain future two years ago, the town's Labor Day celebration is in a much stronger position, and could possibly expand.

Residents in Northfield have been celebrating Labor Day since the 1970s. The tradition, meant to honor everyday working people, started after the country's bicentennial in 1976, when residents decided to merge a separate fundraiser for local nonprofits with the Labor Day parade.
