AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - The city of Akron had to shorten the East Akron Labor Day Parade route on Monday after threats of violence were made against the parade on social media.
According to a release from Akron, after officials found out about the threats, the route was shortened and security was increased for the parade.
Organizers, attendees, and volunteers were all told about the concerns, according to the release.
The parade concluded without incident Monday afternoon.
“Today’s response underscores the importance of our continued work to address violence and threats of violence in our communities,” the release said. “Akron families deserve a safe city where they can celebrate a holiday without fear of violence. I encourage our residents to stay safe today as they enjoy their Labor Day
