The body of a Waltham man was recovered Sunday by the U.S. Coast Guard near Long Island Ledges in Breman, Maine.

The death of Mark Metzger, 74, is now under investigation by the Maine Marine Patrol . Friends reported him missing at approximately 11:40 a.m. Sunday when they couldn’t find him aboard his 19-foot sailboat, which was anchored on the western side of Bremen Long Island.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Marine Patrol, Coast Guard, Maine Forest Service and local emergency personnel responded to search for Metzger. His body was located at approximately 1:30 p.m. by good samaritans, according to the Maine Marine Patrol, and brought back to shore by the Coast Guard.

Metzger’s body will be transferred to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, Maine to determine
