Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open after defeating 15th-seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, 6-3, on Monday in New York City. This victory marks Auger-Aliassime's deepest run in a Grand Slam since reaching the quarterfinals at the 2022 Australian Open. His best performance in a Grand Slam event was a semifinal appearance at the 2021 U.S. Open.

The 25th seed from Montreal will next face No. 8 seed Alex de Minaur of Australia for a chance to compete in the semifinals. In the match against Rublev, Auger-Aliassime showcased his powerful serve, hitting 13 aces while committing only four double faults over the course of the two-hour, 16-minute match. He converted four of his seven break point opportunities and recorded 42 winners compared to Rublev's 22.

The first set was tightly contested, with both players reaching a 5-5 tie. Auger-Aliassime took the lead at 6-5, aided by two aces and a forehand winner. After several attempts to break Rublev's serve, he ultimately secured the set with a forehand winner followed by an unforced error from Rublev.

In the second set, after a 2-2 tie, Auger-Aliassime gained momentum, winning four of the next five games. He closed out two games with aces and capitalized on unforced errors from Rublev to take the set.

The final set saw Rublev attempting to mount a comeback at 5-4, but Auger-Aliassime did not drop a single point. He sealed the match with a series of powerful shots, including a forehand winner and an ace.

Later on Monday, the third-seeded women's doubles team of Gabriela Dabrowski from Ottawa and Erin Routliffe from New Zealand will compete against the 13th-seeded duo of Cristina Bucas from Spain and Nicole Melichar-Martinez from the United States in the round of 16. Additionally, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, and tennis icon Venus Williams are set to face China's Zhang Shuai and Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova.
