DETROIT -- Star outfielder Juan Soto had two decisive swings -- a grand slam and a two-run triple -- to power the New York Mets to a 10-8 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday afternoon at Comerica Park.

The Tigers (80-59) and Mets (74-64) play twice more this week.

Neither starting pitcher made it through the fourth inning as both teams racked up runs early.

Tigers designated hitter Jahmai Jones opened the scoring with a leadoff home run on the first pitch he saw from left-hander Sean Manaea in the first inning.

The Mets answered in the second with a two-run double by Luis Torrens, but Tigers starter Charlie Morton escaped further damage by retiring Francisco Lindor on a flyout and striking out Soto.
