MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – An 8-year-old boy was reportedly bitten by a shark Monday afternoon while snorkeling off the oceanside of Key Largo, authorities said.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:24 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025. Following the reported bite, a Trauma Star helicopter was dispatched to the scene to airlift the patient.

The child was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami for treatment. His current condition has not been released.

The U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) have been notified of the incident and are involved in the investigation.
